Dr. Oz’s guest July 12th, 2013:
Dr. Mitchell Gaynor, M.D., on using Crystal Singing Bowls
for Healing, Pain Relief, Cancer Recovery and more…
Crystal Singing Bowls are amazing sound healing tools. As a sound healing therapy practitioner and trainer who has seen thousands of people over the last 12 years, I have seen the profound effect they can have on managing stress, pain, and on working with the nervous system and brain in general. These bowls are made of crystal quartz, and in the case of Crystal Tones, (the kind of bowls Dr. Gaynor. M.D. uses) they can also be made with many other additional gemstones, minerals, and even metals to enhance or shift their ability to deliver the perfect frequency for assisting people with their health and well-being.
When you sing a crystal bowl, it produces sounds something like chimes, and is lovely to listen to. However, what is so special about the sound that is produced is that it creates something called a binaural beat – the difference between two tones which are very similar, but not quite the same. The brain takes these two tones, and synthesizes them into one tone, which can have a profund affect on the nervous system and the emotions. These could be created by a synthesizer, but are not much fun to listen to, and so probably do not have the same effect as producing them with crystal singing bowls.
There is a long history and body of scientific work on the powerful effects of music on the brain, and we are just beginning to understand the power of listening to the binaural beats created by crystal singing bowls, and what they can do for us. Currently, they are used to manage pain, reduce stress, deeply relax, help people sleep, enhance memory and focus (good for ADD and ADHD), and some people find them helpful in reducing migraine headaches as well.
A leading New York oncologist uses Crystal and Tibetan singing bowls and Hindu Sanskrit chanting to help cancer patients as well. In his book, “The Healing Power of Sound,” Dr. Mitchell Gaynor discusses the amazing results seen by integrating music, crystal bowl sounds, vocalization and meditation into patient care. This week, Dr. Gaynor was a guest on the Dr. Oz show, and when Dr. Oz experienced the binaural beat sounds, he was so entranced he forgot to look back at the camera filming the show!
You can see Dr. Gaynor talk about what he calls “Crystal Sonic Therapy,” which is his name for Sound Healing with Crystal Singing Bowls, in this short video:

What do the Crystal Singing Bowls sound like?
They sound something like chimes, or even echoes of church bells, and the more you “sing” them, the more intense the sound becomes. They can be played very softly, or quite loudly, depending on the effect you want. If you would like to hear the sounds of Crystal Singing Bowls in person, and experience this amazing sound healing therapy for yourself, please consider coming to my Crystal Singing Bowl Sound Healing Concert, being held in Minneapolis, MN. As you listen, either seated or lying down on yoga mats, the celestial sounds of these bowls will wash over you, moving you into a state of peace, deep relaxation and well-being. Your nervous system and brain are actually nourished by these sounds, and you can expect to feel calmer and even blissful.
Some experience healing from physical pain, some go on an inner journey, and some people just enjoy the sounds of the bowls and my voice as they move into a deep state of peace.
